Monahan Avenue

SKA were invited by the clients to do something quite radical and daring to an unassuming suburban bungalow that just happened to sit on one of the more exciting plots we have worked with.  The site cascades down a hillside with long view of hills and tall trees.

The brief asked for the removal of a substandard extension tacked onto the back of the original cottage, and the creation of a contemporary kitchen dining space sunken down into the hillside that would spill out into the garden below.

The core concept for the project was to create something starkly different to the original house, appearing to be this simple, earthy box carved from the landscape that would act as a plinth for the house and terrace above.
